Everything You Need To Know About Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are an inflammation of veins located in the rectum, or around the anus. Hemorrhoids are caused by a wide gradient of things as could be constipation, heavy lifting, diarrhea, or remaining sitted for long period of times. Pregnancy, and aging could also contribute to the appearance of hemorrhoids, indeed half of the population over 50 years old has or will experience hemorrhoids. Pregnancy increments the possibility of developing hemorrhoids because of the hormonal changes, and the pressure that the fetus exerts over the rectum.

Though not life threatening the symptoms of the hemorrhoids might be very irritating, and could aggravate each time the person goes to the bathroom. These Symptoms are painful swelling, a hard lump around the anus, and bleeding among others. If not treated hemorrhoids could burst, which results in a very painful situation.

Thus it is absolutely necessary to prevent hemorrhoids from appearing in order to avoid the shame and pain this means. Preventing hemorrhoids from appearing is an easy task you just have to start drinking more water than usual, eating more fiber, exercising often, and keeping a good posture while sitting, otherwise you could start develop hemorrhoid symptoms. Another good recommendation would be to start using squat toilets, since it is believed that "sitting" toilets help hemorrhoids to develop inside the rectum.

Now, if you failed to prevent hemorrhoids from appearing; you should go the doctor so he can perform the proper evaluation. The evaluation consists of an examination of the anus performed by the doctor, and a digital rectal exam with a gloved, lubricated finger in order to feel any protuberance that could be present.

If the doctor determines that you actually have hemorrhoids, then he will give you a treatment aimed to relieving symptoms, that could consist of several tub baths in a day, or the application of a cream to the affected area. Though in some cases the hemorrhoids must be treated surgically. These methods will be performed at the hospital.

Disgruntled Hemorrhoid Sufferer on June 21, 2009
When I went and saw my doctor about my hemorrhoids he didn't do anything! No examination, no treatment, no surgery --- NOTHING! I paid for a visit (although for what I'm not sure). I still suffer from hemorrhoids, and am afraid to go back to the doctor because of the potential waste of time it represents. If I have to suffer from hemorrhoids, I'd rather do it anywhere but sitting in a chair in the waiting room at the proctologist's office while I wait for an incompetent and unmotivated doctor to do nothing.

Dude, that sucks! Have you tried Preparation-H or any other over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams? My husband used to have bad hemorrhoids and used the creams and suppositories daily until he finally had the surgery in 2006.

In any case, I do hope you find relief Disgruntled Hemorrhoid Sufferer.
